Taralynn Gilligan is an interdisciplinary artist based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of the University of the Arts, where she earned her BFA degree in Fine Arts with a focus in Sculpture. Provocative and confrontational, her work engages with socio-political issues plaguing the United States, critiquing them through a feminist lens. Whether representational, abstract, or a fusion of both, her work seeks to challenge prevailing cultural narratives while exploring the depths of contemporary self-portraiture. Working across various media, her artistic practice encompasses painting, multi-media sculpture, and installation. In addition, as a songwriter and the front-woman of the alternative rock band The Angies, Gilligan’s musical endeavors complement and amplify the feminist themes and bodily imagery explored in her visual art.
